Having performed in over 600 concerts worldwide in 40 countries in the last six years, the Dhoad Gypsies are the undisputed Cultural Ambassadors of Rajasthan.
Four brothers, from an esteemed tribal caste, are at the centre of the group. Their heritage reaches back seven generations, through a rich and celebrated musical legacy.
The Dhoad is a collective of accomplished musicians and vocalists, young and old, wise and spirited. Dhoad consists of six world-class musicians, one dancer and one fakir fire-eater.
Rahasthani folk music is respected all over the world for its emotive and arousing style, and its unparalleled rhythmic complexity and speed. Evoking a trance-like state for the audience and the performer, Dhoad embarks on a rapturous journey on stage, with love, peace and honour at the centre of their lyrical message. Passionate and haunting, with sweeping scales and vocals held with breathtaking stamina, together with the added spectacle of a traditional Rajasthani dancer and stunts by the groups resident fakir, make Dhoad a truly unforgettable experience.
Fronted by artistic director Rahis Bharti and tabla maestro Amrat Hussain, Dhoad performs a diverse repertoire of traditional Rajasthani folk music and semi-classical North Indian compositions on tabla, harmonium, dholak and castanets.
