Nabiha Bensouda is a born artist and performer. Throughout the last year, Nabiha worked intensely on her debut album ‘Cracks’ together with the Swedish producer/writer Carl Ryden, which was released in Denmark February 1st 2010. The tracks on the album are inspired by pop, urban and electronic music the productions are on an international level, rarely seen from an artist out of Denmark. Carl and Nabiha have written and produced most of the songs on the album but also collaborated with fantastic songwriters such as; Nina Woodford (James Morrison feat. Nelly Furtado, Kylie, Leona Lewis, Sophie Ellis Bextor, Christina Milan…), Cozi Costi (Holly Valence, Jamiroquai, Booty Luv, Alex Gaudino, Sunfreakz…) and Chanelle Gstettenbauer (Terri Walker). During their first writing session, Nabiha, Carl and Cozi wrote the track “The Enemy”, which is the second single off the album in Denmark.
”Cracks” entered the official Danish Top-40 Album Chart at 17 and on the TDC PLAY download album Top-40 ”Cracks” has so far peaked at 7. The album has received fantastic reviews with 5-stars in several music magazines such as Gaffa, Tjeck, Sirene & Olivia and recieved 4 stars in various other well known magazines across Denmark. Nabiha has done several spectacular live performances on Danish National tv this spring – including the prestigious Zulu Awards show.
“The Enemy”, which is the albums second single and the follow up to “Deep Sleep”, was sent to radio March 8th. After 3 weeks “on air” “The Enemy went to no 11 on the official Danish Airplay Chart and proved to be the right follow up to “Deep Sleep” The song is about being secretly in love with a good friend yet giving him advise about other girls in his life, whilst to get his attention and hoping he will discover that love is right in front of him. “The Enemy” created the sound and direction for the album ‘Cracks’ and was the first song Nabiha wrote with Carl Ryden and therefore it is a very significant and special song to Nabiha.
Nabiha’s first single “Deep Sleep” is a song with an incredibly strong hook focusing on “just wanting to sleep”. The middle-8 is a lullaby from Mali, which Nabiha’s mother used to sing to her when she was a child. The lyrics in the lullaby are a mix of African and French and it always put Nabiha to sleep. “Deep Sleep” is still doing fabulously on radio and the single has peaked at 7 on the overall Danish airplay chart and on the official sales chart the track has so far reached 4.
Three singles from the album ”Deep Sleep”, “The Enemy” and “You” have been ”Song of The Day” on the British music site Popjustice.com and likewise Nabiha was ”Artist to Watch” on US site Concreteloop.com. and even though the single has so far solely been released in Denmark the interest for interviews from international press has been huge including media from Germany, Canada and France.
London-based Swedish producer Carl Ryden is one of the new up and coming Scandinavian producers who has managed to get a foot in the door internationally and is currently working with several major artists in the US and UK, both as a producer and songwriter. Carl Ryden believed in Nabiha from the moment they met and has invested a great deal of time in her debut album. Most of the album was mixed by Jeremy Wheatley - a living legend - who has mastered the ability to bring out the best in the music. Jeremy Wheatley has amongst other things mixed for Royksopp feat. Robyn, Jason Mraz, James Morrison, Chris Cornell, Dido, Leona Lewis, Pet Shop Boys, Sugababes, Duffy, James Blunt, Moby, Sam Sparro, Robbie Williams, Bon Jovi, Duran Duran, Kylie, Jamelia, KLF, Human League and many more.
